Our History and Background…
The Tobin family has a long history in transportation in Ireland. Established in Avoca, Co Wicklow in 1946 by the Tobin Family, it was a pioneering business for transportation in Ireland.
The business first started in the civil engineering and operated the Avoca mine in County Wicklow, Ireland, which evolved into heavy haulage and general transportation; these divisions of the business were the “The Irish Land Drainage Company” and “Earthmovers Ltd”.
Work included major infrastructural projects such as the Turlough Hill hydro-electric station that was one of the largest civil engineering projects in the state at the time and the Avoca Mine over ground pipeline.
Following the sale of the Avoca Mine in the late sixties the business operation moved to Dublin. The business then concentrated on general transport services, heavy haulage and international shipping, the general transport division at the time was “Garryowen Transport Ltd”.
After a career working for leading international transport and logistics companies, Simon Tobin is now the third generation to carry on the business legacy today, as Tobin Shipping and Transport Ltd.
